Nearest to the Abbey is a replica of St. John’s Cross. The
original is preserved in the museum behind the Abbey to the north east. St.
John’s Cross was structurally flawed and fell soon after erection. With a span
of 2.2m it was one of the widest crosses known but was blown down numerous times
by the wind. It was of the same age as St Martin’s Cross.
